About the Journal

The mission of our journal is to create a multidisciplinary platform for medical students to engage in scholarly research and medical humanities. We aim to foster a culture of critical thinking, inquiry, and reflection within the student body. In creating such a broad scope, we intend to highlight diverse perspectives where students contribute in different formats. From a research stance, students may submit topics including OPP/OMM, biomedical sciences, public health, clinical research, and case reports. Students may also engage in interdisciplinary topics such as medical education, and IPE health technology and A.I., student wellness, and business in medicine. Additionally, we encourage students to creatively reflect on medical humanities topics and express their ideas through creative writing, narrative works, poetry, opinions, art and music. This journal will be a platform for medical students, residents and faculty collaborations to not only submit, but to also engage with other medically related disciplines to broaden professional identities and experience.

Scope of Content - Research & Scholarly Works

Our journal functions as a platform which displays student-initiated research by accepting academic work from the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine. The journal accepts all types of original research including clinical trials and observational studies as well as systematic reviews and meta-analyses. The journal aims to showcase both case reports/series that present distinctive clinical findings and treatment methods and complete literature reviews and narrative reviews. Students are encouraged to adapt their conference abstracts or posters into full articles, expanding on their presented findings. All research submissions must be conducted ethically while maintaining the highest standards of integrity. Our goal is to enhance academic discussions through diverse contributions which provide valuable learning opportunities for authors and readers.

Scope of Content - Narratives, Perspectives & Other Submissions

We aim to create a space where students can express themselves through literature, visual and auditory arts in a way that bridges medicine to the humanistic aspect of healthcare. Work should be authentic and respectful of professional identity. We encourage submitters to undertake this as a task of reflection and appreciation for the medical humanities. This may include and is not limited to influential experiences with their trials and triumphs, personal goals throughout the learning process, reflections on ethical dilemmas, inspirations from real life or from art mediums such as films or books, and discussions on cultural similarities and differences. We welcome all art forms such as creative writing, poetry, narratives, opinion pieces, visual arts, music, podcasts, photography and videos. The journal aims to foster a platform where various backgrounds and perspectives can share their experiences, promoting a rich and diverse collection of creative pieces.
